PressOn: The Story

Through interviews with William Hodding Carter III – journalist, professor and the State Department’s first spokesperson – PressOn examines the intersection of journalism with the Jim Crow South, Jim Jones’ Guiana cult, the Iranian hostage crisis, and today’s “so-called” fake news.

A free press is both enshrined in and insured by the constitution; however, the role of the press in public and political discourse is complex. The press is simultaneously a mirror to the status quo and an instrument to challenge it.

PressOn will examine from the inside this dance between journalist and politico. Through personal stories, Mr Carter reflects on his career in government and journalism. On how things have changed and how they have stayed the same.
